Nigeria Cassava Growers Association

Nigeria Cassava Growers Association was formed in 1982 by visionary leaders to bring prospect into Cassava farming in Nigeria.

These Visionary leaders laid a solid foundation on which the Association is spreading its tentacles. Nigeria Cassava Growers Association is duly registered with the Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission.

Cassava is the easiest crop to cultivate. Cassava grows with rain and survives with dews. Once it is established, it will survive whatever length of dry season.

Our Challenges
The major challenge of Cassava farming is the lack of adequate facilities for the ordinary Farmer to mechanize cultivation process, especially in the southern part of the country where tractable Farmland are not available and Tractors are grossly inadequate.
We are grateful to Ondo State Government for taking a bold step in ensuring that Tractors are available to the farmers.

The real worry of Nigeria Cassava Growers Association is that what is required of an appropriate land clearing is beyond the capacity of the farmers. We therefore request the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to give more attention to Land Clearing and Development. There is need to clear 500,000 hectares in the rain and thick forest of the south. This includes creating blocks of five to ten hectares through demarcation and creating a fire tracing to address the menace of farm and the cattle herders.

Triumph
Cassava Farmers in the country despite challenges is presently on producing an additional 10 million tons of cassava to meet industrial demands. This will require cultivating 500,000 hectares of Cassava farm. That is our target. Large-scale production is a situation where you have about 30 Tons and above per hectare.
Persistent focus on large-scale production of the crop, the local production of some industrial cassava derivatives would receive the needed boost.

Gratitude
We are very grateful to the Federal Government through the CBN Anchor Borrowers Program and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for making available loans to the Cassava farmers to boost Food Security, Industrial revolution and prosperity for the farmers.
